First Person Shooter (2006)

Found helmet, steel, color video camera, battery, RCA cables, extension cord, custom electronic components, misc. hardware.
(12 x 20 x 72 inches)

The helmet allows the user to place themselves into a realtime "first person shooter" video game. A camera on the end of the helmets tail records the back of the user's head and displays it on the screen in front of the face. The video camera moves as the user moves their head. The distance of the camera's image from the user's actual perception allows one to see themselves in third person. This is especially apparent when having a face-to-face conversation or when trying to view something up close.
